The Deep Philosophy Group
We are an international group devoted to contemplative philosophy, or what we call “Deep Philosophy.” We meet regularly to contemplate from our inner depth on basic life-issues, and we use philosophical texts from the history of philosophy to enrich our contemplation. We also work together to develop new activities and ideas, and to give sessions and retreats to the general public.
As philosophers, we reflect on fundamental issues of life and reality – but unlike academic philosophy, we reflect (contemplate) from our inner depth, and in togetherness with our companions. We “resonate” with a selected philosophy text, and we resonate with each other, and in this way we give voice to our deep insights. The result is a “symphony” of ideas about life in general, and about our own personal life.
Our Deep Philosophy Group was born in September of 2017, in the tiny village of Brando near Torino, Italy, at the end of an international retreat of philosophical contemplation which was led by Ran Lahav. The contemplative-philosophical experience was powerful and inspiring, and we decided to form an international group and devote ourselves to this activity.
Since then, we have been meeting regularly, both online and face to face. We have developed a rich repertoire of philosophical exercises and techniques, a network of concepts, and a solid theoretical basis. We offer online sessions to people around the world who want to experience philosophical contemplation, and we also give workshops and retreats in Italy and in other countries. In order to participate in our activities, no philosophical background is needed – everyone is invited.
Our group consists of 4-6 active board-members from several countries, and a larger group of associate members who are involved in different degrees.
For those who want to join us as members of our group, we offer a training program that includes both practice and theory.
