Events

The Deep Philosophy Group offers a variety of activities to the general public, among them:

ONLINE SESSIONS: We meet online (on Zoom) in small groups, usually for one mini-session on Wednesdays (about 30 minutes) and one full session on Fridays (about 75 minutes). Together we contemplate on a short philosophical text and resonate with it in a personal way.

RETREATS: Participants stay together in a retreat house for a long weekend of intense contemplative activity. Groups are of about 10-20 participants, and they are guided by our facilitators through a process of deepening philosophical contemplation.

Philosophical Counseling Training
Philosophical Counseling Training

THE PHILOSOPHICAL COUNSELING TRAINING PROGRAM OF THE DP SCHOOL

Program Dates: September-April 2024. School director: Ran Lahav

[For full details click here]

PROGRAM GOALS: To give students basic knowledge and practicing skills, covering the theory, methodology, and practical methods of philosophical counseling. We envision “a wise and skilled counselor” who has both a coherent understanding of what he/she is doing, and the practical ability to lead an effective counseling process. We do not want “technicians” who know isolated techniques and nothing more, nor do we want “theoreticians” who can “talk about” counseling without practicing abilities. Theory and practice are both necessary and intimately connected.

ADVANCED SECOND-YEAR PROGRAMS: The goal of “a wise and skilled counselor” is ambitious, and a one-year program can offer only a basic level of training. The DP school will offer in the future, in addition to the one-year Basic Program, a second-year training of an Intermediate Program and a Advanced Program. More details in the future.

TIME-FRAME: This is a 1-year program, consisting of four terms (one term= 7 weeks), in other words two semesters (1 semester=2 terms=14 weeks). In each term, two courses will be taught, each course including one online meeting per week, plus an occasional exercise meeting for additional practice. Homework will be done on the Canvas forum, in the student’s free time.

DATES: The first semester starts at the end of September. Registration to the program: July 15 – August 16. (More details in a separate announcement.) Late registration is possible, but the number of places is limited, and acceptance is not guaranteed.

COST: 560 euro for each semester (=2 terms), which is 1120 euro for the entire one-year program, Some limited discounts will be available on the basis of need. Payment should be made in full before each semester: For the first semester, the first 100 euro is due with the registration, and the rest of the payment is due at the end of August. (More details in a separate announcement.)

CERTIFICATE: Upon successful completion of the one-year program, students will receive a Philosophical Counselor Certificate on behalf of the Deep Philosophy School, headed by Dr. Ran Lahav. We are a private school, and our certificates are not state-licensed. It is advisable to check with your local authorities what kinds of counseling you would be able to practice.

Students who will continue to the second year of advanced training will receive higher-level certificates.
